Pilanesberg National Park – Malaria Free

The Pilanesberg National Park is amongst South Africa’s most unique national parks. Covering approximately 55 000 hectares, it is the fourth-largest safari park in Southern Africa. Perched on the eroded remnants of an alkaline volcanic crater, one of only three such craters in the world with magnificent, rugged landscapes and well-watered valleys.

This malaria-free park is renowned for its variety of flora and fauna. Pilanesberg Park boasts Africa’s legendary Big 5- lion, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and elephant. Along with a wide range of species such as the brown hyena, cheetah, sable, giraffe, zebra, hippo, and, crocodile to name a few.

The Pilanesberg National Park is located within a unique zone, called the transition zone where the dry Kalahari and wetter Lowveld overlap. This renders a unique mixture of mammals, birdlife, and vegetation. Pilanesberg Game Reserve is close to the internationally acclaimed Sun City Resort with its championship and world-renowned golf courses. There is nearly 200km of roads have been developed to enhance your safari game-viewing experience. The safari park has about 6000 head of game and over 300 bird species for avid bird spotters.

Madikwe Game Reserve – Malaria Free

Madikwe Game Reserve is the fifth largest game reserve in South Africa, located in a malaria-free zone. The reserve offers the Big Five and other wildlife in the 75000-hectare safari game park which includes newly incorporated privately owned land.

Madikwe Game Reserve terrain consists of huge open plains of woodlands and grasslands and is bordered in the south by the Dwarsberg Mountains. No day visitors are allowed and access to the reserve is only allowed with pre-booked accommodation within the safari park.

All the lodges in the game reserve are fully inclusive safari lodges with all meals and 2 game drives per day included in the tariff. The safari game park is only a 5-hour drive from Johannesburg. The best time to visit the game reserve is between April to October when temperatures are a bit cooler, and the vegetation has died back due to the winter months.

Makalali Game Reserve – Low-risk Malaria area

Makalali Game Reserve is a private Big Five safari park just west of Hoedspruit in the Limpopo Province South Africa. The 9 000-hectare safari game reserve has the Big5, cheetah, hyena, wild dogs, and plains game like kudu, impala, duiker, and many others. This safari park is a birding paradise with over 300 species of birds.

No day visitors are allowed and access to the reserve is only allowed with pre-booked accommodation within the safari park. All the lodges in the game reserve are fully inclusive safari lodges with all meals and 2 game drives per day.
